Privacy Policy
Last updated: 7 July 2026
BinMe ("we", "us") is a UK SMS bin collection reminder service operated from the United Kingdom. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why, and your rights over it. We are the data controller for the personal data described here. Contact: help@binme.uk.
What we collect
When you sign up by text, we collect: your mobile phone number, your postcode and home address, your bin type and reminder preferences, and a timestamp of your consent. When you pay, our payment provider Stripe collects your payment details — we never see or store your card number. We also keep a record of the SMS messages exchanged with you so the service can respond correctly.
Why we collect it (lawful basis)
We process your data to perform our contract with you — sending the bin reminders you signed up and paid for. Your address is needed to know your collection days; your phone number is needed to text you. Reminder texts are service messages, not marketing. We do not send marketing messages, and we will not add any without asking for your separate consent first.
Who we share it with
We use a small number of service providers to run BinMe, each acting under contract as our processor:
Twilio — sends and receives the SMS messages. Stripe — handles payment. Postcoder (Allies Computing) — looks up your address from your postcode during signup. Cloudflare — provides the network infrastructure for our website and service.
Some of these providers process data outside the UK (for example in the United States). Where they do, transfers are protected by UK-approved safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or adequacy regulations. We never sell your data, and we never share it with anyone else except where the law requires us to.
How long we keep it
We keep your data while your subscription is active. If you text STOP, your reminders end immediately and your personal data is deleted from our systems within 30 days, except minimal payment records we must keep for tax and accounting purposes (retained for 6 years as required by UK law).
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to: access a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to processing, and data portability. To exercise any of these, email help@binme.uk from any address, or text STOP to end the service and trigger deletion. We respond within one month.
If you're unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
Security
Your data is stored on servers we control, protected by encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) for all traffic between you, our website, and our providers. Access is restricted and password-protected. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data, and we will notify you and the ICO of any breach where legally required.
Cookies
Our website does not use analytics or advertising cookies. Payment pages are hosted by Stripe, which sets cookies necessary for fraud prevention and processing your payment — see Stripe's privacy policy.
Children
BinMe is not aimed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. Payment requires a payment card in your own name.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we'll post the updated policy here and update the date at the top. If a change significantly affects how we use your data, we'll text you first.
